I spun this up from one of my farmers market rovings and then plied it back on some blue nylon thread. I’m excited about the results of it. Also, I’ve been getting some sage advice from Etsy seller KnittyDirtyGirl (see link on side bar.) I am going to do the other half and hope to get a much tighter ply.

I dyed some roving a couple of weekends ago and just really got a chance to spin it up. The yarn is spun thick and thin but I don’t know what else I should do with it. I was thinking of plying it, but I am not sure. I am open to suggestions though.

Angelina (not Jolie): I spun this really neat blend from Bountiful Spin Weave. One of the ladies at my spin group bought the last of a line of this particular blend and she let me try some out. It was about two ounces and it had cooper colored angelina fibers in it. Very pretty. Its mostly Blues with some royal purple, yellow, white, black and of course cooper colored angelina.

Silk: I am very happy to report that I sat down and pulled out my sample of tussah silk and went for a spin. It was so smooth. Its true what was said that the silk practically spins itself. I would love to work out laceweight singles with tussah silk. Now to spin up the other half and hope that I have enough twist to take it off the bobbin without falling apart.

Goals: (Last but not least) I announced earlier that I learned to knit. This is still true but of course it is only the first basic stitch. I am endeavoring to work a knitted rectangle from a skein as a small childs scarf for my son. One done.

I did finish one of my list items (see pictures below.) 1/3 done.

As for the rest, we are only half way through the month so its hard to say. I have gotten out my spinning wheel on two different occasions this week. However, over the next week, I will have a huge push to get finished with my classes for summer. I am going to start setting my mind to some color issues. My husband is helping divide up the remaining sock yarn into 4 skeins. I believe this will be the least time consuming way to experiment with colors this month. 2 in progress.

Got it. Don’t know how. I had a spinners group meeting at the yarn shop in town. We had about 6-7 people show up. That was real exciting. Hopefully we can have more growth in the amount of people who show up.

For some store news, I am going to mark down my novelty yarn kits to reduce the price of shipping and offer the spindles for free. (These spindles are made from polymer clay from a seller who emptied her shop and I dont know if she will be back. She hasn’t deleted the account but it doesnt give me a lot of confidence. So, the spindles will be sold as is.) All together the kits will only run 25 dollars including shipping by first class mail. Should anyone visit my site from this blog to purchase one I will offer free shipping on the kits at the cost of $20.00. I just decided this so send me a buyers note and include the phrase “freeshippingblog.” I dont actually expect anyone to do that since there has not been a big push to read my blog.

I have like several projects I thought I would get started with and I didn’t even get terribly started. I hate that. I did finish the red merino single and it has been set so I guess I will get it listed sometime this week. I’ll post a picture when I get one.

I have some red probably sock weight yarn drying on the racks as well. I am working on a recreation of the yarn that makes up my avatar on Etsy for someone who was interested in it. I have that wool dyed and with the fan on it has already dried. I may spin it tomorrow. I also plan to spin the remainder of a roving that I turned into a boucle yarn. The original is not for sell but this portion will spin thick and thin. Last but not least on my list for this weekend is creating a novelty yarn. Then I can use it in my plying kit pictures so that people can see what the end product could look like. (That idea is courtesy of cimorenegal from Etsy chat. Thanks!) I have May 1st off for my anniversary but I have no plans and a final on Tuesday and Wednesday. So my yarn-y plans for Monday is to make a sample handspun skein for NotablyGifted. She crochets but has never worked with handspun. Maybe I can get her addicted…. just kidding. I like to share my joys and I dont mind providing it for free. I have had others do it for me.

Anyways, this is the newest edition to my shop.

I have some red merino that seems to be about fingering weight on the wheel right now. I am going to finish it. I just havent. I am frustrated with this blog. I can only see changes I have made when I am logged out or if I post something new. Thats annoying.

Anyway, I have to go size these pictures so that I can place them in the thread from below.

I hope I get something done before the weekend is out. I finished spinning some Alpaca from a batt and then wound it in what looks like a center pull ball and committed to plying it. Of course there is not a whole lot of it after I did that but I seriously thing the plying is doing better. I now have 2 learn to spin kits, 3- 4 oz balls of pastel-ish colored roving, a duo of thick and thin yarn in purple (one part plyed with thread on part thick and curly.) I also have a few mini-skeins that I will try to post for reasonable prices including, 43 yards of rose colored alpaca and 43 yards thick and thin royal’s forest. I also have tiny amounts of a baby blue alpaca, and ingeo. I need samples though so they may get volunteered. I will attempt to upload pictures tomorrow. It will be a good experiment.

This is a test, I did a demo today. It was about spinning. Yay!
